The Girl Who Was Afraid To Be

It took me a long time to have the courage to be who I wanted to be; to stop listening to the hate, the control, the chastisement of others.  But it took all that to get me right here and become the beautiful being I am. I’m free, free to fly anywhere I want, be who I’ve always been.  I say sorry to that little girl that it took this long but I’m arriving now and I’m here to stay….

Beautiful girl speaks so fondly of her passions and talents

Of magic, music, dreams and poetry;

Then stops short

And apologises for speaking at all.

Fiery child spinning wildly under the night sky,

Dancing, singing and howling at the moon

Suddenly halting her fun.

Fearful for causing a ripple so small.

Sexy siren, celebrating her curves

Flicking unkempt hair, licking her lips, barefoot

then covers up

Embarrassed to have shown her all.

All because somewhere in her life,

Someone she loved broke her heart

By ignoring her beautiful words

Mocking her creativity

Telling her to quieten

And sit down

Calling her ugly

And that nobody cared and never would.

You see people aren’t born sad

We make them that way

The sparkle from that little girls eyes was taken

By those that felt threatened by

how brightly they shined.
